Call for Accountability: Defend the Constitution Now

To: Sen. Kelly, Rep. Schweikert, Sen. Gallego

From: A verified voter in Phoenix, AZ

April 18

I am writing to you with a sense of urgency and profound frustration regarding the lack of decisive action and oversight in response to the ongoing abuses and constitutional violations by the Trump administration. This is not a partisan issue—it is a matter of upholding the very principles upon which our democracy stands. The reckless and feckless actions of this administration have repeatedly tested the limits of executive power, undermined the Constitution, and eroded public trust in our institutions. From the blatant disregard for Supreme Court rulings to the misuse of executive privilege, the pattern of behavior is clear: this administration operates without accountability, and Congress has yet to respond with the urgency and seriousness the situation demands. Presidential immunity, as it stands, is based on precedents set by past administrations. However, we are now in unprecedented times, facing actions that challenge the very fabric of our democracy. The doctrine of presidential immunity must be redefined to reflect these realities and ensure that no individual is above the law. For those who claim this is about budgetary concerns, I ask: how are we paying for these profoundly inhumane and unconstitutional acts? What is the cost to the American people—not just financially, but morally and ethically? The resources spent on defending these actions and resisting accountability could be better used to address the real needs of our nation. This reckless disregard for justice and humanity is not only a betrayal of our values but also an irresponsible use of taxpayer dollars. This should be a bipartisan fire drill. The Constitution is not a suggestion—it is the foundation of our nation. Failing to act decisively in the face of these abuses is an embarrassment to America and a betrayal of the oath you took to protect and defend the Constitution. I demand immediate action and accountability. Investigate these claims thoroughly, hold those responsible to account, and restore the checks and balances that are essential to our democracy. If you are serious about your constitutional oath, now is the time to prove it. The American people are watching, and history will judge how you respond to this moment. I urge you to act with the courage and integrity that this crisis demands.
