You are in an unprecedented position and time. A US Senator peacefully asking questions, protected by constitutional rights as a senator was asking questions. And for that he got forcibly handcuffed and removed. This violated his rights as a human and as a sitting representative. This means that the rights of his constituents were also violated. He could not represent them. No amount of “missing context” can justify this action against Senator Padilla. Democracy is meant to be strengthened by dissonance. Hearing differences of opinion makes it great as that pushes us forward. Dissonance is rightly disrespectful. There was no violence. There was no reason to restrain him. The only possible reason was FEAR. Fear of his message. Fear of what the message meant. Fear of the response to his message. Those people in that room were afraid. Are you? You have a choice to make. You could continue to turn a blind eye to the slide into the end of our great democracy. You could live in that same fear. You could also take a stand on the right side of history and move against the rise of tyranny. You could stand n the side of strength, resilience, and democracy. I don’t need a response from you other than to see your actual actions.
