Sustain Governor Kelly’s Veto of HB 2729

To: Rep. Droge, Sen. Tyson

From: A verified voter in Neodesha, KS

April 8

I am writing to urge you to sustain Governor Laura Kelly’s veto of HB 2729. In 2022, Kansans made our voices unmistakably clear during the vote on the constitutional amendment regarding abortion. We voted NO to protect access to abortion and to keep politicians from interfering in deeply personal medical decisions. That vote was not ambiguous—it was a direct affirmation that reproductive healthcare decisions should remain with patients and their providers. HB 2729 directly undermines the will of Kansas voters. This bill adds unnecessary and burdensome requirements under the Woman’s Right-to-Know Act, inserting additional government interference into medical care. Many of these provisions are not grounded in established scientific evidence, but instead reflect ideological positions that do not belong in patient care. Legislation that mandates specific forms, scripts, or notices—especially when they are not medically supported—erodes trust between patients and healthcare providers and creates barriers to timely, appropriate care. Kansans deserve policies rooted in evidence-based medicine, not political ideology. Sustaining this veto is about more than one bill—it is about respecting the democratic decision made by Kansans in 2022, protecting bodily autonomy, and ensuring that healthcare remains guided by science and medical expertise. I urge you to uphold the will of your constituents and vote to sustain Governor Kelly’s veto of HB 2729.
