Redraw districts fairly

To: Rep. Morgan, Sen. Kolkhorst

From: A verified voter in Richmond, TX

July 23

The proposed congressional redistricting in Texas during the upcoming special legislative session is deeply concerning. Redrawing districts solely to gain partisan advantage through gerrymandering undermines the democratic principle of fair representation. Rather than manipulating maps to secure more Republican seats, the focus should be on ensuring districts accurately reflect the state's diverse population and political leanings. Extreme gerrymandering distorts the will of the voters and erodes faith in the electoral process. I urge you to reject partisan gerrymandering efforts and instead prioritize creating compact, contiguous districts that keep communities of interest together. Independent, nonpartisan redistricting commissions have proven effective in many states at drawing fair maps free from political gamesmanship. Texas should learn from their example and pursue redistricting reforms that put voters and democracy first. Manipulative tactics like packing and cracking districts for partisan gain have no place in a healthy representative system. Our districts must be drawn impartially to uphold the bedrock principle of one person, one vote.
