I’m writing as a deeply concerned citizen to urge you to open a full congressional investigation into the Trump administration’s use of extrajudicial killings and to take immediate legislative steps to ensure that no president — now or in the future — has the unchecked authority to kill anyone, anywhere, without accountability or oversight.
No matter who holds office, the power to use lethal force must always be bound by law, transparency, and due process. Allowing a president to decide, in secret, who lives and who dies is a direct violation of the Constitution and a moral affront to democracy itself.
This is a slippery slope that threatens the very foundations of our republic. If a president can authorize killings without oversight, what stops them from targeting political opponents, journalists, or ordinary citizens they disagree with? What’s to prevent such unchecked power from spiraling into war or authoritarian violence?
Our nation was built on the principle that no one is above the law — not even the president. I am calling on you and your colleagues to:
Launch an independent, bipartisan investigation into any extrajudicial killings or targeted strikes authorized during the Trump administration.
Introduce or support legislation that places clear legal limits on the president’s authority to use lethal force outside of declared war or imminent self-defense situations.
Ensure transparency and accountability for any actions taken under previous or current administrations that violated U.S. or international law.
If we allow this precedent to stand, we risk eroding the rule of law entirely. I urge you to act swiftly and courageously to protect democracy, human rights, and the lives of innocent people.
Thank you for your attention and your commitment to upholding the Constitution.
