After the tragic shooting at Apalachee High School in Georgia, it is clear that urgent action must be taken to address the epidemic of gun violence in our country. Four innocent lives were lost - two students and two teachers - with nine others injured, all in a place that should be a safe haven for learning. This horrific event serves as a devastating reminder that our children remain vulnerable targets in their own classrooms. We can no longer accept this unacceptable status quo of violence plaguing our schools and communities. Robust gun safety measures and reform are desperately needed to prevent such senseless acts from recurring and to safeguard the wellbeing of our youth. We have a moral obligation to break through political gridlock and implement substantive policies that will protect our children's fundamental right to grow and thrive without fear. Their lives depend on our collective resolve to end this vicious cycle of violence once and for all.
