Urgent: Protecting New York's Electoral Autonomy and Voting Security

To: Gov. Hochul

From: A constituent in Bronx, NY

July 17

Dear Governor Hochul, As a resident of New York City, I am writing to express my deep concern regarding President Trump’s recent primetime address regarding election infrastructure and federal voting legislation. The rhetoric used, alongside proposals to heavily restrict voting access and deploy federal agents to target state election materials, represents a direct and dangerous threat to the integrity and independence of our elections. Elections are a fundamental state responsibility under the U.S. Constitution. Any attempt by the federal executive branch to encroach upon or seize control of local and state election processes must be met with immediate, unyielding resistance. New York must stand as a bulwark for democratic norms. I urge you to work closely with Attorney General Letitia James and the New York State Board of Elections to ensure our state’s voting infrastructure remains secure from partisan interference. Please publicly affirm that New York will vigorously defend its electoral autonomy, protect the right of every eligible citizen to vote, and reject any unlawful federal overreach into our local democratic processes. Thank you for your time, leadership, and dedication to protecting our democracy.
