Please Oppose Border Wall Construction in the Big Bend Region
To: Rep. Bucy, Sen. Flores
From: A constituent in Austin, TX
February 20
I am a constituent writing to ask that you oppose any plans to construct a permanent border wall in the Big Bend region of Texas.
I support strong and effective border security, and I understand the importance of protecting our state. However, the Big Bend region presents a unique landscape where a permanent wall would be both unnecessary and damaging.
The natural geography of Big Bend, including steep canyons, remote terrain, and the Rio Grande, already acts as a significant barrier. In this region, modern solutions such as surveillance technology, targeted patrols, and coordinated law enforcement efforts are more effective and less disruptive than a permanent wall.
Big Bend is one of the most ecologically important areas in Texas. It supports a wide range of wildlife, including species that depend on open movement across the landscape. A border wall would fragment habitat, disrupt migration patterns, and cause long-term environmental damage in a region known for its conservation value.
In addition, the Big Bend area is an important driver of tourism and outdoor recreation. Visitors are drawn to its natural beauty, supporting local communities and small businesses. A permanent wall would alter the landscape in ways that could negatively impact this economic activity.
As your constituent, I respectfully ask that you support policies that maintain strong border security while protecting one of Texas’s most unique and irreplaceable regions.
Thank you for your time and for your service to our community.
