It’s alarming that individuals like private citizen Jared Kushner and special envoy Steven Witkoff are engaging in diplomatic efforts with a sanctioned Russian oligarch that will compromise our national interests and those of our allies. The involvement of private citizens in such sensitive international matters raises serious questions about potential conflicts of interest and the bypassing of established diplomatic channels, as the State Department had no knowledge of this Russia-favored plan. Of particular concern are the allegations that Mr. Witkoff may be advising Russian officials on how to gain approval for their plans from the Trump administration. This suggests a troubling alignment with Russian interests at the expense of our European allies and Ukraine. I urge Congress to launch a thorough investigation into these unauthorized negotiations. I expect public hearings to be held as soon as possible a public report issued promptly. Specifically, I request that you examine: 1. The extent of Mr. Kushner's involvement in Ukraine-related diplomacy. 2. Any communications between Mr. Witkoff and Russian representatives, both in business and government. 3. The nature and beneficiaries of any business deals Mr. Witkoff or Mr Kushner have advocated for in relation to this conflict. 4. How these negotiations align with or contradict our commitments to our European allies and Ukraine. 5. The potential impact of these actions on regional stability and U.S. interests in Europe. Ukraine is a sovereign nation and our ally, not a bargaining chip. The United States has made commitments to defend Ukraine's sovereignty and NAYO’s security, and any negotiations that undermine these commitments represent a failure of our responsibilities as an ally. It's critical that Congress act to investigate these matters and prevent any actions that could compromise our national security or international standing. Use your oversight powers to shed light on these troubling developments and take necessary action to protect our nation's interests and uphold our commitments to our allies.
