Michigan houses one of the largest concentration camps in the country. I'm calling on you to shut down the North Lake Processing Center in Baldwin immediately. Hundreds of men began a hunger strike on April 20 to protest sleep deprivation, inedible food, and denial of due process. Lights are only off from midnight to 5:00 am, with guards shining flashlights and blasting radios even during those hours. Medical care consists of ibuprofen regardless of symptoms. In December, Nenko Stanev Gantchev died at the facility after reportedly being denied necessary medical attention. Detainees have been held for over 120 days without case decisions. Many don't even know why they're being detained. Ahmad Alnajdawi requested deportation and offered to pay for his own flight but remains imprisoned with no explanation. ICE claims detention is voluntary, yet people who want to leave are being held indefinitely. This facility was closed in 2022 for good reason. Reopening it has created a human rights crisis in Michigan.
