As you know, the Supreme Court just ruled President Trump’s IEEPA tariffs were the obvious unconstitutional overreach we all saw them for. His immediate EO with retaliatory tariffs of 10% and eyeing up to 50% hikes through Section 301 and 232 powers is a ticking bomb to the world economy. Trump, Bessent, and Lutnick are again willfully spiking everyday costs, fueling inflation, and killing businesses and jobs across sectors and our nation. Trump wields tariffs as a weaponized shield in his corruption game—dangling them as quid-pro-quo bait for foreign favors or domestic loyalty—while timing hikes and drops to manipulate markets to fabricate windfalls for cronies and his family members. Realizing H.R. 3908, the National Emergencies Reform Act, remains stalled in committee with no hope of ever reaching the floor, I implore Democrats to do three things: 1. Add riders to the FY2027 funding bills—bar any new tariff hikes without a congressional vote. 2. Hold urgent Commerce Committee hearings to expose the damage across all sectors, business owners, suppliers, and employees. 3. On the Senate side, file a discharge motion to force real action. Please act before the March continuing resolution deadline. Protect our state’s families and businesses from the feckless GOP’s cowardly inaction and Trump’s incompetence—we literally cannot afford to wait for relief.
