Investigate Barron Trump for Insider Trading
To: Sen. Cornyn, Sen. Cruz, Rep. Carter
From: A constituent in Leander, TX
March 7
I am writing to demand that Congress immediately open a formal investigation into alarming allegations that Barron Trump made massive oil market investments shortly before the United States launched military strikes against Iran under the authority of his father, Donald Trump. According to widely circulated reports and financial claims now demanding scrutiny, Barron Trump allegedly purchased tens of millions of dollars in oil positions—reported to be as much as $30–50 million—just days before U.S. military action triggered a surge in global oil prices. The timeline alone is staggering: • Day 1: Barron Trump reportedly places tens of millions of dollars into oil positions. • Day 2: Public silence—no warning to markets, no indication of imminent escalation. • Day 3: The United States launches bombing operations against Iran. In the immediate aftermath, fears of disruption to global shipping—particularly through the vital energy corridor known as the Strait of Hormuz—sent oil prices sharply upward, delivering enormous potential gains to anyone positioned in the market beforehand. This sequence of events demands immediate answers. It raises grave questions about possible insider trading tied to military action, abuse of privileged information, and the potential monetization of war by individuals connected to the President of the United States. Congress cannot pretend these questions do not exist. If any ordinary American had placed a $30–50 million market bet immediately before a geopolitical event that moved global oil markets, regulators would already be investigating. Yet in this case—where the trader is the son of the sitting president who ordered the strikes—Congress has remained silent. That silence is unacceptable. The American people deserve clear answers to the following questions: • Did Barron Trump possess nonpublic knowledge of impending U.S. military action against Iran? • Did anyone in the administration communicate sensitive national-security information to members of the President’s family? • Were these trades flagged or reviewed by the Securities and Exchange Commission or any other financial oversight body? • What safeguards, if any, exist to prevent family members of the President from trading on information tied to military operations? The power to send American forces into conflict is one of the most serious responsibilities entrusted to a president. If that power is even perceived to intersect with private financial gain by members of the president’s family, it represents a profound ethical breach that threatens public trust in our government. War must never become a tool for private profit. Congress has both the authority and the duty to act. I therefore demand that you: • Open an immediate bipartisan investigation into the alleged trades. • Subpoena relevant financial records and brokerage activity. • Obtain trading data from exchanges and regulators. • Determine whether any privileged information regarding military action against Iran was improperly shared. If these allegations are false, an investigation will establish that quickly. But if they are true, the implications are staggering and demand accountability. The American people deserve to know whether anyone connected to the President profited from advance knowledge of war. Congress must investigate this immediately.
