Unconscionable Spending on Trump’s Ballroom

To: Sen. Padilla, Rep. Lieu, Sen. Schiff

From: A constituent in Venice, CA

May 12

I just read the article about Trump’s plans to spend $1 billion on his ballroom: https://newrepublic.com/post/210320/what-donald-trump-plans-buy-ballroom-1-billion. It is ridiculous and unconscionable that we are even considering spending a dime on this after the perfectly functional White House was intentionally and illegally destroyed. Whoever made that decision should be personally on the hook for all costs here. This must stop. We cannot allow this kind of fiscal irresponsibility to continue, especially after numerous ill-advised and unneeded fiscal self-owns, such as US tariffs and conflicts abroad. I am particularly concerned about the $1 billion taxpayer funding for the ballroom, which has increased dramatically from an initial estimate of $200 million, which was promised as "$0 cost to taxpayers". Taxpayers will be responsible for covering the ballroom's security upgrades, and I believe we deserve a detailed outline of how this money will be spent. The influence of private donors on funding raises further concerns, especially when large sums are allocated for security without a clear public benefit. Please demand immediate action to stop this renegade spending, hold lawbreakers accountable, and force transparency in government expenditures.
