I’m writing as one of your constituents because I’m deeply frustrated with the lack of genuine dialogue between elected officials and the people they represent. Every time I or others reach out, we receive responses that sound like rehearsed talking points or pre-written statements, not thoughtful replies that address the actual concerns we raise.
When you respond to your constituents, it shouldn’t feel like a formality or a PR exercise. It should feel like a conversation. You represent real people! people who are struggling, paying attention, and genuinely trying to participate in our democracy. But too often, your responses come across as, “Yeah, whatever, this is what I’m doing anyway.” That’s not representation. That’s dismissal.
You work for us, not for a party, not for donors, and not for corporate interests. We deserve to be heard, not managed. Democracy only works when there’s an open channel between the people and their elected officials, one built on mutual respect and accountability.
I’m asking you to make a conscious effort to engage with constituents directly and authentically. Listen. Respond with substance. Ask questions. Let us know that our voices matter to you. We are THE AMERICAN CITIZENS.
