I am deeply concerned about House Resolution 1579, which seeks to prohibit House members, officers, and employees from using restrooms and facilities that do not align with their biological sex assigned at birth. This proposed legislation is discriminatory and infringes upon the rights and dignity of transgender and non-binary individuals. Preventing people from using facilities that correspond with their gender identity promotes stigma, marginalization, and potential harassment. It perpetuates harmful narratives that transgender identities are somehow invalid or unworthy of respect. Furthermore, it raises significant privacy concerns by essentially mandating the disclosure of one's biological details. This bill runs counter to principles of equality, inclusivity, and respect for human rights that our nation should uphold. I urge you to reject this discriminatory measure and instead support policies that protect the civil liberties of all Americans, regardless of gender identity or expression. Promoting understanding, not discrimination, should be the objective when it comes to issues impacting our diverse communities.
