Your Weekly Reminder: Federal Employees and Your Constituents Are Watching
To: Sen. Schmitt, Sen. Hawley

September 21
Consider this your weekly reminder: every day that you continue to support this administration and its policies toward the federal government is another day that your constituents are watching and taking note.
Russell Vought is not some distant bureaucrat with no influence over what is happening. As Director of the Office of Management and Budget, he has played a central role in the administration’s efforts to restructure the federal government, including workforce reductions, reorganizations, and directives affecting federal agencies and employees.
These policies have real consequences for the people who work for the federal government and for the millions of Americans who depend on those agencies. Federal employees are not disposable numbers on a spreadsheet. They are your constituents. They are your neighbors, your friends, and members of the communities you were elected to represent.
So I have to ask: at what point do you put your constituents ahead of loyalty to an administration?
Every day you continue to defend and support policies that are harming federal agencies and traumatizing the people who work in them, you are making a political choice. And every day you dismiss the concerns of the people who elected you, you risk losing their trust.
You were elected to represent the people in your district—not to blindly support one administration or one political figure regardless of what that administration does.
And let me be very clear: people remember who stood with them when their jobs, livelihoods, and communities were being threatened. They also remember who chose party loyalty over the interests of their constituents.
You should be thinking very carefully about the political consequences of continuing down this path. Your constituents are paying attention, and they will have the opportunity to express their judgment at the ballot box.
You work for the people who elected you. Please start acting like it.
