Growing up in a Jewish household, I became well versed in Holocaust history, including stories about the Warsaw Ghetto. There Jews who had been rounded up and confined spent their days searching for food to survive. They faced malnutrition, starvation and disease brought on by unsanitary conditions. And the world turned a blind eye. I grew up on the slogan “never again.” Yet here I am, watching this history being repeated in Gaza. People are starving. Israeli soldiers are shooting them when they come to food distribution sites. Children are dying. And the world is turning a blind eye. I’m sure at some time in your life you’ve visited a Holocaust memorial or attended an event remembering those who died. And if the occasion called for it, I’m sure you too have said “never again.” Now you have the power to make those words a reality. The power to stop Israel from recreating its own twisted version of the Warsaw Ghetto in Gaza. The US is the greatest and most powerful nation on earth. It’s time to use some of that power to stop the systematic starvation in Gaza.
