Demand Investigation of ICE Deadly Force and Accountability for DHS Leadership

To: Sen. Fetterman, Rep. Smucker, Sen. McCormick

From: A constituent in Lititz, PA

January 8

I urge you to oppose the Trump administration's attacks on immigrant communities and hold this administration accountable for their authoritarian and unlawful tactics. Recent ICE operations have targeted Democratic-led cities including Los Angeles, Chicago, Charlotte, and New Orleans, as well as specific communities like Somali immigrants in Minnesota. These raids have resulted in thousands of missing immigrants, including those who disappeared following Operation Midway Blitz in Chicago and Alligator Alcatraz in Miami. Hundreds of U.S. citizens have been wrongfully detained, often due to racial profiling. ICE agents have used indiscriminate violence against legal observers and peaceful protesters. After one ICE agent in Minneapolis murdered U.S. citizen Renee Nicole Good, ICE leadership dismissed the attack as "self-defense" despite clear video evidence to the contrary. This killing demonstrates the urgent need for congressional oversight of ICE's use of deadly force. The administration has paused green cards and citizenship applications for people from 19 countries and canceled citizenship ceremonies. ICE detention facilities have documented 510 identifiable human rights violations, including sexual assault, medical negligence, and mistreatment of children and pregnant people. The administration has also revived family separation policies, affecting hundreds of children. ICE is deploying invasive surveillance tools including facial recognition spyware, phone hacking, social media monitoring, and license plate tracking through systems like Flock Safety to profile and track individuals. These practices violate privacy rights and enable discriminatory enforcement. I ask that you take three specific actions. First, demand a full investigation of ICE agents' indiscriminate use of deadly force against protesters, including the killing of Renee Nicole Good. Second, refuse to pass a DHS appropriations bill that fully funds ICE operations that enable these human rights violations. Third, call for the impeachment of Kristi Noem as Secretary of Homeland Security for overseeing these unlawful practices. Congress has a constitutional duty to conduct public oversight investigations into ICE agent conduct and detention facility conditions. These policies represent indicators of rising authoritarianism that threaten both immigrant communities and fundamental American values. I expect you to forcefully condemn these targeted racist attacks and use every legislative tool available to stop them.
