An Open Letter

To: Rep. Houlahan, Sen. Fetterman, Sen. McCormick

From: A constituent in West Chester, PA

July 2, 2025

I’m writing to urge you to take a clear and public stand against the alarming rise in incidents where individuals are posing as law enforcement officers — including ICE agents and police — in order to unlawfully detain, question, or intimidate people in our communities. These actions are not only terrifying for the individuals targeted, they are also a threat to the rule of law, public trust in legitimate law enforcement, and the safety of everyone. No one should have to fear being kidnapped under the pretense of a government authority. It’s especially disturbing when these impersonators target vulnerable populations such as immigrants, non-English speakers, and people of color. I urge you to support stronger enforcement and penalties for law enforcement impersonation, call for investigations into reported incidents, and ensure that state and local authorities are not cooperating with or turning a blind eye to unlawful detentions — whether by private citizens, extremist groups, or unauthorized contractors. This is a matter of basic rights and safety. We deserve to live in a country where no one can be disappeared off the street by someone pretending to wear a badge. Thank you for your time and your leadership on this urgent issue.
