I am pleased to see that the Senate Democratic caucus is insisting on separating the DHS minibus, and providing a two week funding extension to allow time for fuller negotiations. However, the 3 conditions that Sen. Schumer has thus far laid out for the negotiation, while a good start, are not nearly sufficient to achieve the curbs on ICE and CBP that this moment calls for. Here are some additional outcomes that we'd like to see the senator push for in the negotiation: Restrict ICE and CBP’s ability to target people based on their race, accent, place of employment or location at the time of apprehension. Demand that all ICE/CBP actions that result in serious injury or death be investigated by impartial federal authorities in cooperation with State agencies. Stop ICE and CBP’s enforcement around schools, daycare centers, hospitals and other sensitive locations.
