I am writing to urge you to take immediate action against ICE's escalating attacks on immigrant communities and U.S. citizens. The current administration's immigration enforcement practices represent a dangerous expansion of authoritarian power that demands congressional oversight and accountability.
ICE has conducted targeted raids in Democratic-led cities including Los Angeles, Chicago, Charlotte, and New Orleans, as well as against specific communities like Somali immigrants in Minnesota. These operations have resulted in the wrongful detention of hundreds of U.S. citizens, often due to racial profiling. Following Operation Midway Blitz in Chicago and Alligator Alcatraz in Miami, thousands of immigrants have gone missing with no accountability for their whereabouts.
The agency has paused green cards and citizenship applications for people from 19 countries and canceled citizenship ceremonies, denying legal pathways while simultaneously ramping up enforcement. ICE detention facilities have documented 510 identifiable human rights violations including sexual assault, medical negligence, and mistreatment of children and pregnant people. The revival of family separation policies has affected hundreds of children, including cases like Liam James Ramos who was cruelly targeted and detained.
Most alarmingly, ICE has used deadly force against protesters, resulting in the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti. These killings demand full investigations and accountability.
ICE employs invasive surveillance tools including facial recognition spyware, phone hacking, social media monitoring, and license plate tracking systems like Flock Safety to profile and track individuals without proper oversight.
I ask that you demand full investigations into ICE's use of deadly force and the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, refuse to pass any DHS appropriations bill that maintains funding for ICE, conduct public oversight investigations into detention facility conditions, condemn the targeting of children like Liam James Ramos and call for their release, and call for the impeachment of Secretary Kristi Noem for enabling these abuses.
These are not normal law enforcement practices. They are indicators of rising authoritarianism that threaten the rights and safety of all Americans.
