Push back on anesthesia coverage decision

To: Sen. Hawley, Sen. Schmitt, Rep. Cleaver

From: A constituent in Kansas City, MO

December 5

Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield's decision to cap anesthesia coverage for Missouri patients undergoing surgery beyond arbitrary time limits is deeply concerning. This policy puts patients' health at risk by potentially incentivizing premature termination of procedures to avoid coverage denials. The length of a surgery should be determined solely by medical necessity and the professional judgement of the attending physicians and anesthesiologists, not by insurance companies aiming to cut costs. I urge you to vehemently oppose this misguided policy that prioritizes profits over patient wellbeing. Missourians deserve access to comprehensive, quality healthcare without facing harmful restrictions imposed by their insurance provider. I implore you to take immediate action to protect your constituents and ensure Anthem reverses this dangerous decision.
