Pass a War Powers Resolution and say no to a U.S. occupation in Venezuela

January 16

As your constituent, I’m writing to urge you to vote YES on a War Powers Resolution and to share that you do not believe that the U.S. should be running Venezuela. This is a war for oil. President Trump has made clear his intent to seize Venezuela’s resources to enrich U.S. oil companies and hoard more power for himself. To make matters worse, this needless operation was launched without congressional approval. While Americans struggle to afford housing, health care, and basic necessities, our government is wasting money on a military occupation designed to extract and seize another country's resources. Americans did not vote for more forever wars. We want elected officials who are working to lower the cost of living and solve the problems we are facing here at home. I want my tax dollars to fund health care, not warfare! Trump’s reckless decision to illegally invade a sovereign nation is dangerous and costly for all of us, and now he’s threatening to expand these actions into other countries. Congress must reassert its constitutional authority and stop a senseless war that makes us all less safe. I urge you to pass a War Powers Resolution and focus on solving the problems we are facing here at home.
