I am writing as a concerned constituent regarding recent reports about pregnant minors in federal custody being transferred to a Texas Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) facility and concerns raised about transparency, oversight, and access to these children.
I understand that reports and public statements have raised concerns that pregnant minors have been centralized at a facility in Texas, that members of Congress have encountered obstacles during oversight efforts, and that questions remain regarding the transfer and tracking of some children after they leave the facility. While facts should be established carefully and verified, these reports raise serious questions that deserve immediate attention.
Children in federal custody, particularly pregnant minors, are among the most vulnerable people under government care. Regardless of political beliefs or opinions about immigration policy, I believe all children in government custody should receive safe conditions, appropriate medical care, clear documentation of transfers, and independent oversight to ensure their wellbeing.
I respectfully request that you:
Seek full transparency regarding the transfer, location, and welfare of pregnant minors in federal custody.
Ensure that Congress is able to carry out lawful oversight responsibilities without unnecessary restrictions.
Request an accounting process that clearly documents where minors are transferred and confirms continuity of medical care and support services.
Support independent review of conditions and treatment at facilities housing minors.
This issue should not become a matter of speculation or rumor. Public trust requires facts, accountability, and transparency. If children are under federal care, the government has a responsibility to ensure their safety and wellbeing and to demonstrate that responsibility openly.
I would appreciate knowing what actions you intend to take regarding this issue.
Thank you for your time and service.
