We NEED REAL Action - Not Another Weak Statement

To: Sen. Bennet, Sen. Hickenlooper, Rep. Neguse

From: A verified voter in Boulder, CO

January 12

Me, again! I am writing not just as your constituent, but as a heartbroken human who refuses to tolerate another hollow political response in the face of state violence and cover-ups. On January 7, 2026, an ICE agent brazenly murdered a U.S. citizen. This was not an ambiguous incident with conflicting reports - multiple videos exist showing what happened, and local officials outright reject the federal propaganda justifying the murder as self-defense. ICE is emboldened, kicking down doors, with protection and immunity provided by the administration and co-signed by republicans. Instead of accountability, we have: - A federal executive branch defending the killing as justified, state sponsored violence. - DHS leadership doubling down and increasing federal enforcement deployments. - Congressional Republicans blocking investigations, and Democrats offering only tepid condemnations while refusing to use your institutional power to hold federal authorities to account. Let me be crystal clear: we need leadership, NOT press releases. We need:
1. Emergency Oversight Hearings.
Not a statement. Not a symbolic markup session. Public, televised hearings with subpoenas. We need DHS and ICE leadership held accountable under oath. 2. Real Accountability for ICE and the Impeachment of Kristi Noem
This should be one step toward the abolishment of ICE. ICE officers are not and should not operate above the law. There should be transparent investigations, independent evidence access for state officials, and charges brought against violent perpetrator. 3. Congressional Action, Not Condemnation Language.
Do. Something. Unprecedented times call for your unprecedented action. Stage a sit-in. Make a public show in the Oversight or Judiciary Committee demanding answers from DHS. Be louder. Use the power we gave you. 4. Democratic Leadership Accountability.
If Senate and House leadership *ahem Senator Chuck Schumer* will not lead on ending unchecked federal violence and protecting civil liberties, then they should step aside for leaders who will. We are tired of strongly worded statements that simultaneously water down outrage and leave power unchallenged. This is not a policy dispute. This is violence, cover-ups, and the abdication of congressional responsibility. Your constituents are watching, the WORLD is watching. People are dying. How will you meet this moment?
