I am writing as a concerned constituent to urge you to use every constitutional tool available to prevent the United States from entering a war with Iran without explicit authorization from Congress. The Constitution is clear: the power to declare war belongs to Congress, not the President. Any move toward military conflict absent congressional approval would represent a dangerous erosion of the separation of powers and set a precedent that places unilateral war-making authority in the hands of a single individual. Regardless of party affiliation, this should concern every member sworn to defend the Constitution. For more than two decades, American families have carried the burden of continuous conflict overseas. Our service members have sacrificed enormously, physically, emotionally, and financially, through wars that many Americans were promised would bring stability but instead produced exhaustion at home and uncertainty abroad. The American people were assured we would move away from endless foreign wars, not drift into another potentially catastrophic conflict in the Middle East. An ill-advised war will not distract Americans from the real challenges facing our nation at home. Families are struggling with rising costs of living, communities are experiencing tension and violence connected to immigration enforcement actions, the Epstein files and many citizens feel deep concern about ethics, accountability, and integrity within our highest institutions of government. Escalating a foreign conflict will not solve these problems. It will only compound them. Escalation with Iran risks American lives, regional destabilization, global economic disruption, and the possibility of a prolonged war with no clear objective or exit strategy. Our soldiers and their families deserve leaders who exercise restraint, deliberation, and respect for constitutional limits before placing them in harm’s way. I ask you to publicly and forcefully assert Congress’s authority by: -Opposing any unauthorized military action against Iran -Supporting or introducing legislation requiring explicit congressional authorization before hostilities begin -Using oversight powers to demand transparency regarding military planning and objectives -Prioritizing diplomacy and de-escalation over military escalation Protecting American service members means ensuring they are never sent into conflict through executive overreach. Your oath is not to a president, but to the Constitution and to the people you represent. History will judge whether Congress fulfilled its responsibility at moments like this. I urge you to act decisively to prevent another unnecessary war and to safeguard both American lives and democratic governance.
