Mr. Mullin’s refusal to de-escalate his personal feud with Senator Rand Paul during his hearing demonstrates a prioritized interest in personal grievances over the diplomatic temperament necessary for this cabinet position. - Temperament Concerns: The DHS requires a leader with a "cool head" to manage the Secret Service, FEMA, and border operations. Mr. Mullin’s history of combative public behavior suggests a volatility that is fundamentally at odds with the stability required for the nation’s safety. The Department of Homeland Security is too vital to be a training ground for an under-experienced administrator. I ask that you insist on a nominee with a proven track record of managing massive bureaucracies and a demonstrated ability to exercise diplomatic restraint.
