2001 Roadless Area Conservation Rule

To: Rep. Garamendi, Sen. Schiff, Sen. Padilla

From: A constituent in Richmond, CA

August 31, 2025

I am writing as a concerned constituent to urge you to take a firm stand against any efforts by the Trump administration to rescind or weaken the 2001 Roadless Area Conservation Rule. This rule has been vital in protecting nearly 60 million acres of America’s most pristine national forest lands from destructive development, including logging and road-building. The Roadless Rule plays a critical role in preserving clean water, safeguarding wildlife habitat, and protecting opportunities for outdoor recreation. Its repeal would open the door to irreversible environmental damage in areas that Americans overwhelmingly want to see protected. These lands are part of our national heritage, and we must ensure they remain intact for future generations. Any attempt to roll back this rule is a step in the wrong direction. It disregards the voices of millions of Americans who value public lands and conservation and prioritizes short-term industry interests over long-term environmental health and public benefit. I strongly urge you to speak out publicly and use your legislative power to oppose any action that undermines the Roadless Rule. Please do all you can to defend our public lands and hold the administration accountable for policies that threaten our environment. Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. I look forward to your response and to seeing your continued leadership on protecting America’s treasured public lands.
