Constituent concern regarding ICE accountability and human rights

To: Rep. Carey, Sen. Husted, Sen. Moreno

From: A constituent in Columbus, OH

January 17

I am a constituent from Columbus, Ohio, writing to express serious concern about the conduct of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the growing normalization of dehumanizing rhetoric and violence toward immigrants. I am asking you to support concrete congressional action to ensure accountability and transparency within ICE, including: • Independent investigation of deaths and serious injuries connected to ICE operations • Mandatory public reporting on enforcement actions and detention conditions • Clear limits on ICE activity in sensitive locations such as schools, hospitals, and courts • A shift in funding toward humane processing, legal counsel, and asylum adjudication rather than prolonged detention Immigration enforcement should operate within the rule of law and basic human rights standards. Current practices are eroding public trust and putting lives at risk. I would like to know what actions you are taking, or plan to take, to address these concerns.
