This morning I woke to the news that ICE agents shot and killed Alex Pretti in Minneapolis. Once again the videos of the killing seem to clearly contradict the accounts of the killing being put forth by federal officials. By many accounts Alex Pretti was coming to the aid a community member when he was killed. The Trump administration blocked Minnesota from participating in the investigation of Renee Good's killing – and now it appears that despite significant evidence that she posed no threat to her killer it will be Renee Good and her wife who will be the subject of the federal investigation. The NY Times is reporting that an FBI agent who wanted to investigate Renee Good's killing has resigned in protest over the conduct of the "investigation." I'm left doubting if either killing will be investigated in an honest and objective manner. Every day it is becoming clearer that President Trump and his administration have no respect for the Constitution or for the oaths that they swore to uphold it. Please vote no on any and all measures that could fund ICE or the DHS. The disgraceful failure of Congress to do its job must end. I understand the challenges that Democrats face when they are in the minority in both Houses, but as long as the Senate has the power of the filibuster I implore you to use it. If this leads to a government shutdown, so be it. We can find a way to get by without our Social Security checks. But we can not stand by and watch our country descend into an autocracy.
