I am writing to urge you to protect federal funding of Medicaid to protect those Americans most in need of it.
Medicaid benefits the most vulnerable members in our communities, many who would otherwise have no access to medical care.
Nearly 82 million Medicaid recipients rely on those benefits. More than 65% of Medicaid recipients reside in nursing homes. Most are poor, elderly and/or disabled.
If Medicaid goes away, the burden to support those people will fall to already financially-strapped states. Texas does not have the resources for such expenditures.
Cutting Medicare also will add at least 5 trillion to the deficit, which Americans don’t support. It will be devastating to everyday Americans, all to give tax cuts to the richest people in the country.
My wife and I ask you to vote against any legislation that threatens Medicaid. Anything else is a moral failure and an outrage.
