Texas - Teach the Truth

To: Lt. Gov. Patrick, Rep. Harris Davila, Gov. Abbott, Sen. Schwertner

From: A constituent in Leander, TX

September 13, 2025

It is unacceptable that our students are being denied the truth about history. Texas must pass laws requiring that history be taught as it truly happened—not as a sanitized version that hides uncomfortable truths or pushes political agendas. Students must learn the good, the bad, and the ugly of world history, U.S. history, and Texas history. Anything less is a betrayal of their education. If our children grow up believing America is perfect and has never made mistakes, you are setting them up for ignorance, arrogance, and failure. If you continue to cherry-pick what history is “acceptable,” you are robbing them of the ability to think critically and to do better than past generations. This does not mean teaching only Texas centric history. This does not mean ignoring slavery, genocide, racism, or war crimes. This does not mean erasing the contributions of marginalized people. To do so is a disservice not only to our kids, but to the future of Texas and the United States. Stop playing politics with education. Stop insulting the intelligence of our students. The young people of Texas deserve to know the truth about their country and the world. Anything less is cowardice and negligence on your part. We demand that you act now. Pass laws that require truthful, comprehensive history education. No excuses, no delays. The future of our children—and of this state—depends on it.
