Current Tariff Policy

I am writing as a concerned constituent deeply alarmed by the economic consequences unfolding due to the recent blanket tariffs enacted by the administration. As of Q1 2025, our economy has already contracted by 0.3%, and prices for common goods in my community are beginning to spike beyond affordability. These are not abstract policy impacts—these are felt daily in our homes, at the grocery store, and on our monthly bills. The decision to impose a universal 10% import tariff—alongside proposed 60–145% tariffs on Chinese goods—has triggered rapid inflationary pressure, destabilized small businesses, and spurred retaliatory measures abroad. Economists across the political spectrum are warning that we are accelerating toward a deep recession unless Congress intervenes. I strongly urge you to: - Demand immediate hearings on the economic impact of these tariffs - Support legislation to roll back or pause universal tariffs - Advocate for targeted, transparent trade policy—not blanket taxation disguised as protectionism - Ensure any future tariffs undergo congressional review and economic impact analysis Trade policy should be a tool for fair growth, not a political weapon that burdens working families. Please do not let short-term ideology sabotage long-term economic stability. I’m counting on you to stand up for reason, for our economy, and for the people you represent.
