Support transgender student athletes and reject the campaign of harassment targeting them in Michigan schools. A lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan is seeking damages for "emotional distress" because a high school girl may have shared a locker room with a transgender teammate from an opposing volleyball team. An independent investigation already found no evidence of Title IX violations at Monroe Public Schools. There is no verified harm, no allegation of misconduct, and no proof a transgender girl was even present.
The Michigan High School Athletic Association, which governs athletics at 1,500 schools and receives zero federal funding, has a waiver process for transgender athletes. That process worked exactly as intended. One waiver was approved for the entire 2025-2026 fall sports season. Despite that, three Michigan school districts are now under federal investigation, and Monroe's board voted 4-2 to ban transgender girls from its teams, even though the student at the center of this lawsuit played for a different school entirely.
There is no scientific evidence that transgender girls are stronger than or pose any danger to their cisgender peers. This lawsuit is not about protecting anyone. It is about using federal machinery to push transgender kids out of school sports. Stand against this kind of targeted cruelty and make clear that Michigan's transgender students belong in their schools, on their teams, and in their communities.
