I am writing to express my deep concerns about Pam Bondi for Attorney General! She has a track record of being an election denier and spreading conspiracy theories about votes! The question I have is whether her nomination is based on abilities or is it based on being a loyalist to our President! It sure looks like the latter! Just like with Pete Hegseth, who appeared to have no experience that would make one believe that he’s a good fit to lead our military however once again he’s a loyalist! Only authoritarian governments want to deliberately place loyalists in leading government positions as they trust those loyalists will do their bidding! That’s not how our democracy has worked under former Republican Presidents and former Democratic Presidents but it appears to be happening now! The Republican Party is now in charge and as one of many Americans we are watching whether what Republicans will do?! Will the party simply be a yes party and capitulate to a leader that clearly wants to bypass Congress on all decisions including those that involve the purse? So far it would seem that way! I have heard justifications around bypassing Congress to freeze all federal funds and yet that decision has already created chaos and literally shut down the Medicaid line which will undoubtedly affect children, elderly, nursing homes….. Some say that it was a “glitch” however it’s a glitch that came on the heels of a freeze in federal funds! We need leaders in government that will serve the country and serve the people. My fear is that these selections are being lined up to weaponize government against all those who aren’t in line! Those are the acts of an authoritarian government! Democracy has never been about serving a particular leader but serving the country and checks and balances are a critical piece of that! As you vote on Pam Bondi, I hope you will give thought to our country and our Democracy and your own duty to serve the people- not your party- not your leader - but the people! That is what Democracy looks like! Autocracy would mean you’d bend to the will of the Dictator! My thoughts here are not just my own but of many that have shared those same fears! We are watching what you do and we will remember!
