I'm writing to ask you to oppose the "Stand with Israel" Act proposed by Senator Santarsiero. This bill's goal is to establish unconditional support for another country, which I do not support. Governments change over time, and I am deeply uncomfortable with the idea that Pennsylvania would legislate unconditional support for any other country. Furthermore, in the context of the current Israel/Hamas war, this legislation effectively endorses Israel's policies and actions during the war, which have been deeply troubling and inhumane. Senator Santarsiero is welcome to feel however he'd like about the State of Israel. But as a Jewish Pennsylvanian whose father is German, I feel quite differently. Instead of pledging unconditional allegiance to a foreign government that's actively murdering tens of thousands of innocent people, we should be working wherever we can to end this terrible and awful war.
