Stop government censorship and distortion of historical facts

To: Sen. Fetterman, Sen. McCormick, Rep. Reschenthaler

March 17

The recent efforts by the federal government to censor and distort historical facts on government websites, museums, and educational resources are deeply concerning and a gross violation of the principles of academic integrity and freedom. Censoring terms related to gender, sexuality, and the experiences of marginalized communities erases their stories and contributions from the historical record. Altering interpretive materials without consent or acknowledgment betrays the professional standards of historians and misleads the public. This systemic campaign to manipulate history to fit a narrow ideological agenda is antithetical to the core values of promoting historical accuracy, preserving evidence, and upholding intellectual honesty. By classifying rigorous scholarship as "toxic indoctrination," the government dismisses generations of diligent research by historians and undermines public trust in historical knowledge. Censorship and distortion of the past render history unrecognizable to those who lived it and useless to those seeking to learn from it. Words, precision, and context are integral to conveying the complexities of the human experience across time. Denying or inventing narratives that contradict documented evidence is a disservice to the American people and a violation of the ethical standards to which historians adhere. The government must immediately cease these pernicious efforts to rewrite history through censorship. Preserving the integrity of the historical record is paramount to upholding democratic values and ensuring an informed citizenry. The American people deserve access to accurate accounts of their nation's past, without ideological manipulation or erasure of marginalized voices. Historical truth must prevail over revisionism rooted in prejudice.
