Don’t put unaccompanied children in detention centers

The detention of unaccompanied children is horrifying. We are not just talking about 17 year olds. Children as young as 8&9 arrive on their own. The administration’s recent policy changes have resulted in prolonged stays in federal custody, prevented reunification with loving caretakers, and forced children to attend court hearings without legal representation. Unaccompanied children are at much greater risk for abuse Please work to end the detention of unaccompanied children, ensure safe, timely release to vetted sponsors, and protect meaningful access to full legal counsel.
