House Democrats: CHOOSE A NEW SPEAKER
To: Rep. Quigley
From: A constituent in Arlington Heights, IL
November 5
As your constituent, I am writing to urge you to oppose Hakeem Jeffries for Speaker of the House in January 2027 and support a genuinely competitive election for Democratic leadership.
The Speaker of the House holds tremendous power in shaping legislative priorities, setting the congressional agenda, and determining which issues receive attention. This position should be held by someone who represents the interests and priorities of Democratic voters, not simply the preferences of the party establishment.
I do not believe Hakeem Jeffries should be treated as the automatic or inevitable choice for Speaker. Democratic voters deserve leadership that is accountable to them, willing to challenge the status quo, and genuinely reflective of the people who put their trust in their elected representatives. His public record, policy positions, campaign financing, and leadership decisions deserve serious scrutiny before he is elevated to one of the most powerful positions in government.
A Democratic majority in the House should represent an opportunity for meaningful change, not simply a continuation of establishment leadership. There are other capable Democratic members who may offer a stronger vision, better priorities, and a greater commitment to representing the voters who elected them.
I am asking you to listen to your constituents and make this decision thoughtfully rather than treating party leadership's preferred candidate as a foregone conclusion. Please vote against Hakeem Jeffries for Speaker and support an open, competitive nomination process that gives other candidates a fair opportunity to step forward.
Democrats deserve a choice, and voters deserve leadership that represents them.
