Support safer streets through Transportation Alternatives Program funding

To: Sen. Fetterman, Rep. Smucker, Sen. McCormick

From: A constituent in Lititz, PA

April 24

The federal Transportation Alternatives Program and funding for active transportation projects like bicycle infrastructure play a crucial role in improving road safety for all users. Constructing dedicated bicycle lanes is one of the Federal Highway Administration's Proven Safety Countermeasures, capable of reducing bicycle and vehicle crashes by up to 53%. Safe streets benefit everyone, whether they drive, bike, or walk. I urge you to oppose any efforts to cut funding for the Transportation Alternatives Program and similar initiatives. Instead, support sustained funding to make our roads more accessible and less dangerous. Additionally, please cosponsor the bipartisan Sarah Debbink Langenkamp Act to expand federal grant opportunities for local traffic safety projects. Investing in alternative transportation infrastructure saves lives and builds more livable communities.
