Senator Eric Schmitt's statements regarding "Watergate style hearings are needed over Arctic Frost due to weaponization of the justice system” would be laughable if they weren’t so pathetic.
Arctic Frost only happened because Donald Trump, the current (and former) President, would not accept the outcome of a free and fair election. According to evidence presented by the January 6 Committee, he was using his influence with right wing groups like the Proud Boys and others, as well as Senators from his own party, and even fake electors to overturn the results. When Vice President Mike Pence refused to go along with this scheme, the "protesters" who attacked the Capitol were chanting that he should be hanged.
We remember that day well. The raised fist from Josh Hawley, who objected to the results (followed later by footage of him running away will forever be etched onto his legacy. The fact that the phone numbers of Senators and others were caught up in the investigative sweep, which was legal based on Patriot Act provisions, wasn’t intentional targeting of these individuals, just who the President was reaching out to in his desperation to hold onto power.
But there seems to be no Senate hearings being talked about in regard to the Department of Justice issuing indictments against Trump's perceived enemies, including the former FBI Director, the Attorney General of New York, and Senator Adam Schiff. And there’s likewise been crickets regarding the accusations of sedition against sitting Democrats who correctly reminded the military about their oaths and the Uniform Code of Military Justice rules against accepting unlawful orders being threatened with death.
So, if there are hearings, I sure hope those whose phone numbers (not actual phone calls) were collected have kept their records because you can count on the Democrats and career FBI officials to have information those people may not want released to back up any false accusations of impropriety.
