Please oppose Brian Johnson’s nomination to lead the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. When he served as deputy director of the CFPB during Trump’s first term,l the agency weakened protections against predatory payday lenders, pulled back enforcement, and shifted power away from consumers and toward financial corporations. He also oversaw cutting the agency’s independent funding and weakening its enforcement authority. Confirming him would be like getting the fox to guard the hen house! It would allow the administration to continue its campaign to WEAKEN or even destroy the dismantle CFPB, not strengthen it and help it support American consumers. For 15 years, the CFPB has stood between consumers and some of the most powerful corporations in the country., returning billions of dollars to people harmed by illegal conduct. The Senate should demand a director committed to rebuilding that work, rather than confirming someone prepared to destroy it. Please reject Brian Johnson’s nomination and protect the CFPB!
