Co-sponsor and push for a floor vote on the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. The Supreme Court's ruling in Louisiana v. Callais just gave Alabama a green light to use a congressional map a lower court found intentionally discriminates against Black voters. The federal Voting Rights Act is being gutted in real time, and Congress needs to act before more maps get locked in.
The bulk of Black Americans live in former Confederate states — exactly where the Court's retrenchment is hitting hardest. State-level voting rights acts don't cover federal elections, and no Republican-controlled Southern state is going to pass one anyway. Partisan gerrymandering workarounds in California and New York can't fill that vacuum. Only a restored federal law can. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has already named this a top priority. Make it yours too.
