As you review the budget passed by the Ohio House, I urge the rejection of the amendment eliminating the Ohio Elections Commission, the independent body responsible for enforcing state campaign laws. This amendment would allow elected officials and their allies to oversee violations of the rules that govern their own campaigns. Eliminating the Elections Commission adds more unfunded mandates to election officials as they are forced to assume additional responsibility with no new resources. The Ohio Elections Commission protects independent campaign finance enforcement.
