Donald Trump wants to put an anti-worker loyalist in charge of the Department of Labor. Keith Sonderling’s record should alarm every Senator and worker in America. As a commissioner at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, he voted against a rule implementing the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act — a landmark protection meant to ensure pregnant workers can get basic accommodations instead of being pushed out of their jobs.
The labor secretary is supposed to protect workers from discrimination, retaliation, wage theft, unsafe conditions, and corporate abuse. Someone who opposed strong protections for pregnant workers cannot be trusted to defend the people who keep this country running. Sonderling’s nomination is part of a broader Trump agenda to weaken worker protections, empower employers, and roll back basic rights on the job. At a time when families are struggling with rising costs, unsafe workplaces, and corporate greed, the Department of Labor should be fighting for workers — not helping corporations get away with more.
You in the Senate have the power to stop this nomination. You can reject Sonderling, demand a nominee who will enforce the law, and make clear that protecting pregnant workers, LGBTQ+ workers, union workers, and every worker is not optional.
Stiffen your spines, raise the political cost of rubber-stamping Trump’s nominees, and show undecided senators that voters are watching. Reject Keith Sonderling’s nomination for labor secretary. Workers deserve a champion — not a Trump nominee who opposed pregnant worker protections and threatens workplace fairness.
