Stop playing politics with people lives and fund SNAP

To: Rep. Flood, Sen. Fischer, Sen. Ricketts

From: A constituent in Papillion, NE

October 30

More than 150,000 Nebraskans will be impacted by the withholding of funding from the SNAP program. This is a political game of chicken that you and your boss are playing with vulnerable people. Elderly people. Veterens. Disabled people. Working poor people. Children. There is money that has been specifically allocated to ensure that government shutdowns don’t impact SNAP funds. That money is there. It has been funded. It is waiting to be used. The USDA secretary has the ability to ensure that people can still eat. However, that contingency funding is being withheld at the authorization of the Trump administration. I donated money to Offutt AFB’s Airman’s Attic. I donated money and non-perishable goods to the Neighborgood Pantry. I’m trying to help my neighbors because you won’t. Trump is literally willing to starve Nebraskans to get his way. And you’re sitting on your hands letting it happen. At this point, I agree with Steve Bannon, who recently compared Congress to the Duma, the ceremonial Russian assembly. Food is a human right and it should not be used as a bargaining chip by anyone. We know the money is there. We know the help is there. Stop playing with peoples lives. Grow a spine and help Nebraskans.
