I am writing as a deeply concerned constituent following reports that the President has unilaterally kidnapped a foreign head of state, the latest in a pattern of unauthorized military and covert actions abroad. Regardless of one’s opinion of this particular foreign leader, the United States does not grant its President unchecked authority to conduct acts of war, regime change, or extrajudicial seizures at will. These powers rest with Congress for a reason. The Constitution is explicit: decisions that risk war, retaliation, or international destabilization require legislative authorization and oversight. We are not the world’s police. We are not a monarchy. And we are not a nation where the executive branch can act first and ask permission later when it comes to foreign military action. When Congress allows this behavior to go unchallenged, it is not simply avoiding conflict—it is surrendering its constitutional role. Guardrails exist precisely for moments like this. If they are not enforced when tested, they cease to function at all. I am asking you to: - Publicly demand a full accounting of the legal authority claimed for this action - Support or initiate a formal congressional investigation - Assert Congress’s Article I war powers without delay - And, if it is determined that the President acted without lawful authority, pursue impeachment proceedings as required by your oath of office This is not about partisan politics. It is about whether the United States remains a constitutional democracy governed by law rather than by impulse or force. Silence or inaction by Congress will be interpreted—correctly—as consent. Please understand that this is not an abstract concern. Actions like this endanger American lives, undermine international law, and normalize executive overreach that future administrations will exploit. Many of us are watching closely, and we expect our representatives to act accordingly. I look forward to your public response and to seeing Congress reassert its constitutional responsibilities.
