Our Republic was founded on the principle that government exists to serve the people—not the wealthiest donors. Yet the Supreme Court’s rulings in Buckley v. Valeo and Citizens United have turned campaign finance into a free‑for‑all, allowing unprecedented sums of money to drown out ordinary citizens’ voices. Because the Court is the final arbiter of our campaign‑finance laws, a bad decision there leaves us powerless to legislate reform.
The Constitution gives us a remedy: a constitutional amendment. By enacting the “Restore Democracy Amendment,” we can reverse the Court’s mistakes, restore political power to *We the People*, and pave the way for commons‑based reforms such as publicly financed elections. This is not a radical experiment; every generation before ours has used amendments to advance the nation’s core values. The only step we have not yet taken is this one, and the stakes could not be higher.
We urge you to champion this amendment in the House and Senate. Please make the passage of this amendment a legislative priority. The future of our democracy depends on it.
