An Open Letter

The DOJ has failed to meet its obligations under the Epstein Files Transparency Act. Yesterday Attorney General Pam Bondi displayed blatant contempt for Congress and the survivors of child sexual abuse by Jeffery Epstein and who knows how many other rich and powerful men. Her performance before the House Judiciary Committee was an assault on the whole nation. I have no words adequate to express the fury I feel when I recall her testimony that "the Dow is over $50,000 right now" as she attempted to deflect questions about why the DOJ had not acted on the evidence that they hold. I find it impossible not to hear in her remarks and attitude an admission that on her watch we have a two-tiered system of justice and a vigorous argument that this is how it should be. Victims are not entitled to justice, or even the to the semblance of an honest investigation into their claims, if that investigation would embarrass or jeopardize the power and privilege of rich powerful men – and heaven forbid that these men actually have to face the possibility of being held to account for the crimes that are alleged. The House must move to censure the Attorney General for the contempt that she showed to the members of the Judiciary Committee, the Epstein survivors, and to our system of justice. Every member of the House should be outraged at the way she flaunted her contempt for the Judiciary Committee as it attempted to do its job. Even though Republicans in the House are sure to block a vote on censure, the attempt must be made so that the Republicans are on record for refusing to stand up for themselves and for the people they represent. With her assertion that a booming stock market means that there is no need for justice for the Epstein survivors, the Attorney General made it very clear that she does not serve the people of the United States, she serves the interests of the President and the other rich and powerful men accused of heinous crimes against children. She has no moral compass and she is publicly flaunting her dereliction of the duties that she assumed with her oath of office. Work to impeach her should begin immediately, it it is not already under way. Our nation can not survive if we are unwilling to defend the underlying principles on which it is founded. It is quite clear to me that President Trump is on his way to installing himself as an autocrat and the Attorney General is openly aiding and abetting him in that project. Action is required now.
