Stop voting with the GOP on seemingly innocuous pro-ICE measures

To: Rep. Courtney

From: A verified voter in New London, CT

June 11

I recognize that your district includes military entities as well as some conservative portions of our great state. But I beg of you to please not cross the line and vote with the GOP on pro-ICE measures. Much like many other states, immigrants are a big part of Connecticut’s hidden infrastructure, and undocumented immigrants do not deserve the punishments meted on them by our federal government for wanting a fair shake and to chase the American Dream. Recent events around the US and California currently show the ways in which our GOP-led federal government is attempting to use an ICE-led crackdown on these individuals as a way to stir unrest and pick fights to consolidate power and exploit the office of the executive. It is imperative that we stand up and say clearly that this is not ok, and to allow a kowtowing to this administration’s use and abuse of ICE, even if part of a poison pill bill, is unconscionable. To see you standing with an organization that separates families and arrests women and children, including those who are critically ill, is embarrassing and beneath your station as an ethical and moral leader of our community. Do not stand with this administration, no matter how politically expedient it may be. It is simply wrong. Thank you.
